Jan Oblak (born January 7, 1993) is a Slovenian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for the Spanish club Atletico Madrid and is captain of the Slovenian national team. He is often considered one of the best goalkeepers in the international league.
Oblak signed a contract with Portuguese club Benfica at the age of 17 and became part of the team that won the national championship in the 2013-14 season. In 2014, he moved to Atletico Madrid for 16 million euros, becoming the most expensive goalkeeper in La Liga at that time. In the 2015/16 season, he won the Ricardo Zamora Trophy as the best goalkeeper, conceding a record number of goals - 18. He won the award again for the next 3 seasons and for the 5th time in 2021. Oblak was additionally nominated for the Golden Ball Award in 2017 and 2018, after his constant performances for his club.
Having played more than 350 matches for Atletico Madrid, Oblak won 4 trophies with the club, including La Liga in the 2020-21 season. Oblak made his debut for the Slovenian national team in 2012 and was named Slovenian Footballer of the Year six times.

Benfica
On June 14, 2010, Oblak signed an agreement with Portuguese Benfica, which in August 2010 loaned him to another top-level club Beira-Mar. He then moved to Olhanense on loan in January 2011, until the end of the 2010-11 season.
Benfica leased Clouds to another Portuguese team, Union de Leiria, for the 2011/12 marketing campaign. He made his league debut on January 15, 2012, in a 2-2 away draw against Nacional. As a result, on July 6, 2014, he received the award "Best Goalkeeper of the Year" in the league.

On July 16, 2014, Atletico Madrid announced that they had reached an agreement with Benfica to transfer the Cloud pending a medical examination. Atletico paid sixteen million euros for the Slovenian player, which made him the most expensive goalkeeper in the history of La Liga. Oblak moved to Madrid on a six-year contract as a replacement for Thibaut Courtois, who had a lower back to play for his parent club Chelsea after his loan expired. During his presentation on July 22, 2014, Oblak stated: "I didn't come to replace everyone. I come like any other player. I am here on the side of relaxing players and goalkeepers. I will do everything in my power to protect this shirt and achieve first-class results this season. I will do everything in my power to help the band."
