 The 2020-21 UEFA Champions League is the 66th season of Europe's most coveted football competition organized by UEFA and the 29th season since it was renamed from the European Champions Cup to the UEFA Champions League.

Bayern Munich were the defending champions but was knocked out in the semi-finals by Paris Saint-Germain, whom they had beaten in the final over the previous 12 months.

Association Team Allocation

A total of 79 groups out of 54 of the fifty-five UEFA member associations participate in the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League (the exception is Liechtenstein, which does not organize a home league). The affiliation rating, based on the UEFA USA coefficients, is used to determine the number of participating groups for each affiliation:

Associations 1–four, each with 4 teams.

Associations 5-6, each consisting of 3 teams, qualify.

Associations 7-15 have two teams each.

Associations from sixteen to fifty-five (with the exception of Liechtenstein) have one crew each.

The winners of the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League and the 2019-20 UEFA Europa League will receive an additional ticket if they no longer qualify for the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League through their domestic leagues. However, the Champions League and Europa League title holders have qualified through their domestic leagues, meaning that 2 additional entries are not required this season.

Association Ranking

For the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League, institutions are allocated places according to their 2019 UEFA us of coefficients, which take into account their overall performance in European competitions from 2014-15 to 2018-19.

In addition to a distribution based entirely on United States coefficients, associations may additionally have additional groups participating in the Champions League, as indicated below:

Distribution

Changes were made to the default get entry in the list, as the Champions League title holders, Bayern Munich, and the Europa League title holders, Sevilla, who were guaranteed places at the Champions League organization level, are already certified for the Champions League organization level through their home leagues. Teams

In early April 2020, UEFA announced that due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe, the closing date of the match was postponed to a later date. UEFA has also sent a letter to all member associations stating that home leagues must be fully completed without prior completion in order to qualify for European competitions. Following a meeting with 55 UEFA institutions on 21 April 2020, UEFA strongly recommended that they complete domestic Top League and Cup competitions, although in some special cases where this is not always appropriate, UEFA will expand the guidelines for the participation of its members in competitions in the event of the cancellation of the league or cup. Following the Assembly of the UEFA Executive Committee on 23 April 2020, UEFA introduced that if domestic competitions are terminated in advance for legitimate reasons in accordance with conditions related to public health or financial problems, the relevant institutions across the country must select their groups of participants to participate in the 2020-21 UEFA member competitions, primarily based on the benefits of the 2019-20 domestic competitions., and UEFA reserves the right to deny them admission if UEFA considers that the termination of the competition is currently not legal, or the selection process is no longer objective, transparent and non-discriminatory, or the crew is perceived by the public as unfairly qualified. A suspended home competition can also be resumed using a special layout from a unique one in such a way as to nevertheless facilitate qualification par excellence. All leagues must contact UEFA by 25 May 2020 to determine whether they intend to resume their competitions,  however, this closing date has been changed to a later date. On 17 June 2020, UEFA introduced that institutions must enter their groups by 3 August 2020.
